Oneness and Harmony

It was a privilege for me to have known Brother Paul Wu since the late 1970s in Taipei. He was always positive and believed that all things could be solved through proper fellowship. Nothing seemed to bother him, especially regarding the church and the work. Such a positive attitude towards the Lord's recovery and the coordination of the brothers and the co-workers has been a real pattern to me. Many times, when we were faced with seemingly insurmountable problems—whether in the Far East, South America or the United States—fellowship with our brother always resulted in peace in my heart. The Lord, through His mercy and grace, gave such a gift as our dear Brother Paul to His recovery. He was truly used by the Lord to help sustain oneness and harmony among the churches. It is with much thanksgiving to the Lord that I would like to share three memories of our brother.

In the early 1990s, when the Lord's recovery first spread to Russia, I witnessed the cooperation of the work from the East and the West as never before. Without hesitation, Brother Paul followed the burden Brother Lee had for Russia. Under Brother Paul's leadership, manpower and finances were committed, resulting in the establishing of many churches in the Russian-speaking world. Today, thousands of believers in Russia are enjoying the ministry.

Brother Paul was also particularly instrumental in our dealing with a situation in the south of the Philippines in 1994, which involved around 300 churches with more than 20,000 believers. Under Brother Lee's leadership, a few hundred brothers and sisters were sent to strengthen the Philippines mainly by speaking the ministry and helping the saints realize the preciousness of our heritage in the Lord's recovery. Most of the brothers and sisters were sent from the Far East, from countries such as Taiwan, Malaysia, Korea, Thailand, and Indonesia. I believe this burden of restoring the saints mainly came through the fellowship of Brother Paul. Such a move recovered most of the churches in the south of the Philippines.

Lastly, on a more personal level, I am grateful for Brother Paul's practical help when my family and I moved from Taiwan to the United States in 1983. I needed a twenty-foot shipping container to transport various sets of furniture and other bulky items, and Brother Paul helped me in completing the task. It was a day and night endeavor, but he was there to assist me all the way.

When I heard of our dear Brother Paul's passing on March 5, 2020, I felt an indescribable sadness. A great gift from the Lord has returned to be with our Lord. On the one hand, our brother is in a better place; on the other hand, his departure leaves us with a sense of loss. For those of us who remain, may our Lord, through His mercy and grace, make us useful vessels after the pattern of our dear brother. May the Lord bless Brother Paul's family and continue to bless His recovery. May the Lord raise us up as prayer return.

In the love of the Lord,
